FF310 complete kit (transmitter, receiver, CT8002 tester, GTC062 fuse socket set)

Working voltage range:
6 to 42 volts DC (DC only; GTC warns never to connect it to AC or to circuits over 42 V DC)
What it traces:
Short circuits, open circuits, broken wires, current leaks, and wire identification/tracing without untying harnesses (maker's description)
Transmitter (FF310T) output:
Current-limited pulsing 5-volt signal for open circuits; pulses the power already in the circuit for shorts, with current-limiting protection (product page FAQ)

GTC FF310 FaultFinder Open and Short Circuit Finder and Tracer

A two-part circuit tracer for 6–42 V DC vehicle and equipment wiring: a transmitter injects a coded signal into the circuit and a battery-powered receiver with a flexible probe locates opens, shorts and hidden wires through panels.

Watch out

  • The older FF300 FaultFinder looks similar but is not 42V-ready and has no encoded signal; check the model number on the case.
  • The FF310T transmitter and FF310R receiver are not sold separately as a working tracer; listings selling only one unit cannot trace circuits.

Why people pick it

  • Traces wires through interior panels and anything other than solid sheet metal, so you can find faults without disassembling trim or untying harnesses
  • Wide 6–42 V DC working range covers 12 V and 24 V vehicle systems, and the internal fuse protects the tool if it is connected above 42 V DC
  • Both open-circuit and short-circuit modes in one kit, plus wire identification and current-leak tracing
  • Kit includes fuse socket connectors in four sizes and the CT8002 circuit tester, so you can hook up at the fuse box without piercing wires
  • Encoded signal for noise rejection, and three receiver sensitivity levels for difficult bundles (maker's description and manual)

Know before you buy

  • DC only: GTC states it must never be used on AC voltage or circuits connected to AC lines
  • Not for ignition-system components, and GTC cautions disconnecting air bags and sensitive modules before use
  • Tracing is impeded by wires running close to metal frames or return conductors, which weaken the magnetic field signal (manual)
  • No digital readout of distance or fault position: it locates the fault area by audio/visual signal only
  • Transmitter and receiver each need a 9 V battery, with about 25 hours of life each (manual)
