Choose FLIR Edge Pro when you need to position the camera separately while keeping the screen in view. Choose FLIR ONE Pro for direct attachment to one supported phone, in the correct connector and operating-system version. Both list a 160 × 120 native thermal detector: our choice between them rests on working position and workflow, rather than a detector-resolution upgrade.
FLIR lists about 1 hour of camera battery life for ONE Pro, versus 2 hours 30 minutes for Edge Pro, with Edge remote operation up to 5 m from the smart device. Treat these as manufacturer specifications, not guaranteed session lengths. ONE Pro series sheet, Edge series sheet.

Sources: model sheets for ONE Pro Android, ONE Pro iOS USB-C and Edge Pro, plus the series sheets above.
The Android ONE Pro model sheet compresses its target range into −20 to 400°C; the table retains the series sheet's separate range bands.
Processing is separate from native resolution. Both list VividIR and MSX. FLIR describes VividIR as combining image frames, and MSX as embossing visible-camera edges onto thermal imagery. The Edge series sheet separately labels 480 × 360 as super resolution; the ONE Pro series sheet lists 1440 × 1080 saved images. Neither figure replaces the native detector dimensions in this comparison.
Range is separate from accuracy. ONE Pro's sheet specifies ±3°C or 5%, describing the percentage as a typical percent of the difference between ambient and scene temperature, applicable after 60 seconds, with the camera at 15–35°C and scene at 5–120°C. The newer Edge series sheet gives ±3°C or ±5% with those startup, camera and scene limits. Its older model sheet instead says object temperature above 0°C and “whichever is higher”: these are different published conditions, so ask FLIR to resolve them before making a quantitative temperature claim outside the newer sheet's limits.
Best for separate positioning: FLIR Edge Pro
Edge Pro earns our pick for awkward viewpoints because FLIR documents both detached use and clipping it onto a mobile device. You can choose the working position for each view rather than committing to a permanently separate screen.
The 5 m specification is camera to phone, not a promise about target size, focus or measurement quality at that distance. The 0.3 m minimum focus distance is camera to target. For a recess, our advice is to establish a stable live view close to the phone, then move the camera into position while checking that the connection holds.
Bluetooth establishes the camera-created peer-to-peer Wi-Fi network; image connection is via Wi-Fi. Its USB-C socket charges the camera. FLIR's current Edge manual says the app warns when camera-to-phone distance becomes excessive and that increasing it further can lose the connection. Do not plan an inspection around the maximum distance being available everywhere.
One practical constraint matters for a tablet or a site without cellular service: while paired, the device accesses the internet via mobile data, not Wi-Fi, according to that manual. The manual also requires mobile data for a camera firmware update. Update and check your setup before traveling.
Best for direct attachment: FLIR ONE Pro
ONE Pro suits a walkthrough where the phone and camera should point together. Its manual describes switching on the camera, connecting it to the phone and opening FLIR ONE. The OneFit connector extends by up to 4 mm to accommodate a case; check actual clearance rather than assuming every case fits.
Its 0.15 m thermal focus minimum, compared with Edge Pro's 0.3 m, makes it our preference for closer viewing. However, ONE Pro's MSX alignment minimum is also 0.3 m. A thermal focus specification does not promise correctly aligned visible-edge overlays at the same distance.
Choose ONE Pro when its physical arrangement solves your job. It brings the same listed native detector dimensions, sensitivity and image frequency as Edge Pro; direct attachment alone does not establish better thermal image quality.

Power: put both cameras on the charging checklist
ONE Pro has its own rechargeable battery. A phone connector does not make charging disappear: its sheet lists a separate female USB-C charging input, as does Edge Pro. Charge the phone as well as the camera before a session.
The stated camera runtimes favor Edge Pro for a longer walkthrough. Full-charge estimates go the other way: 40 minutes for ONE Pro and 60–90 minutes for Edge Pro. These figures do not establish which arrangement drains a particular phone less. We would decide between them on usable working position first, then leave room in the schedule for charging and file checks.
Saved files: keep a temperature record, not just a picture
Both model sheets specify standard JPEG with 16-bit measurement data, and both series sheets describe radiometric JPG stills. Video is listed separately as MPEG-4, with MOV on iOS and MP4 on Android in the series documents. For later temperature review, make the original radiometric still your deliverable; do not assume the video contains the same data.
Edge's older model sheet lists MP4 without the OS split; use the newer series document's platform distinction when planning exports.
Both manuals describe an app gallery, optional saving to the phone gallery with permission, image notes and editing. Our suggested record is a named location, an original thermal still and a visible context image, with a note about the view and conditions. Open a sample saved file before starting the full inspection.
The Edge manual describes manual or automatic FLIR Ignite uploads. If mobile-data uploads are disabled, it says to disconnect the camera before uploading through the app's Ignite connection. Our preference for a site without cellular service is to capture first, verify the gallery, then upload afterward.

The corresponding official model sheets identify Android, Lightning, iOS USB-C and Edge Pro. USB-C connector shape alone is insufficient reason to order the Android camera for an Apple device. Edge's model sheet still uses ONE Edge Pro, while the newer series document uses Edge Pro; match the part number and package.
Do not substitute Edge without Pro: the series sheet lists its native detector as 80 × 60.
For Edge Pro 11002-0201, FLIR's US-language model sheet lists camera, USB-C cable and printed documentation; its pouch is listed as an accessory. ONE Pro's model sheets list camera, USB cable, printed documentation and pouch. Neither contents list includes a wall power supply. Confirm the actual regional package rather than treating an accessory photograph as an inclusion.
Check the current app before ordering. FLIR's current Apple app listing requires iOS 18.0 or later, or iPadOS 18.0 or later. The Edge series PDF still lists iOS 15 / Android 11 minimums, so its older OS row is insufficient purchasing guidance. Check Android eligibility and the exact phone through our compatibility guide; wireless is still conditional on a supported device and app. FLIR's Android app description explicitly allows exploring the app without an attached camera, so installation alone is not a connection check.
A winter example: a radiator recess
Imagine documenting a cold-looking patch behind a radiator. We would choose Edge Pro if separating the camera from the screen makes that view practical, or ONE Pro if the attached phone has a clear viewing position. Save the location and surrounding view before deciding what needs further investigation.
For an outdoor part of the walkthrough, compare camera operating air temperature, not just the target range: ONE Pro lists 0–35°C, Edge Pro −10–50°C. Those limits also differ from the accuracy conditions above.
Both manuals say thermal measurements describe surface temperature, with accuracy affected by distance, ambient temperature and emissivity. Use our home heat-loss inspection guide for interpreting building patterns and planning the investigation; this comparison decides the camera arrangement.
How we choose
These recommendations compare FLIR's model-specific sheets, series sheets, manuals and published app requirements. We prioritize camera placement, native detector specifications, focus limits, power and recoverable records. All performance figures are manufacturer claims; thisMETER has no published measurements of these cameras. Where FLIR documents disagree, we identify the disagreement rather than promise the broader limit. Our selection method and measurement policy explain that approach.
Verdict
Buy Edge Pro when a separately positioned camera or sharing between supported platforms will earn its place in your workflow. Buy ONE Pro when direct attachment suits the job, after matching the exact phone version. Both offer the same listed native detector dimensions; confirm app support, package contents and a usable saved-file workflow before ordering.
Frequently asked questions
Is FLIR Edge Pro better than FLIR ONE Pro?
Choose Edge Pro when positioning the camera separately from the screen will help your inspections. FLIR specifies wireless operation up to 5 m from the smart device and about 2 hours 30 minutes of camera battery life. Both have a 160 × 120 native detector. ONE Pro suits direct attachment to a supported phone and has a shorter thermal minimum focus distance; its exact connector and operating-system version matter.
Does FLIR ONE Pro use the phone battery?
ONE Pro has its own rechargeable camera battery, listed for about 1 hour, and a separate USB-C charging connection. Direct attachment therefore does not remove the camera from your charging checklist. Edge Pro also has a camera battery. Plan for the phone and camera separately; the documents compared here do not establish a like-for-like phone battery drain figure for either setup.
Does FLIR Edge Pro need an internet connection?
The camera creates a peer-to-peer Wi-Fi connection to the phone, using Bluetooth to establish it. That local camera link is separate from internet access. FLIR's manual says a paired phone can access the internet through mobile data, rather than Wi-Fi. For Ignite uploads without mobile data, the manual describes disconnecting the camera first. Check connectivity before planning immediate cloud delivery from an inspection.
Do FLIR ONE Pro and Edge Pro save temperature data?
Yes. FLIR documents JPEG stills containing 16-bit measurement data for both model families; the series sheets call them radiometric JPGs. Keep those original files when you want a temperature record to revisit. Video is listed separately as MPEG-4. Do not assume that a screenshot or an exported video preserves the still image's measurement data; capture a radiometric photo at each location you need to document.
