On this page · Quick picks: choose the inspection record
For repeat inspection rounds, choose Fluke TiS55+ when manual focus, finer target detail and voice or photo annotations will improve the saved record. Choose TiS20+ for a simpler fixed-focus route: it already supports asset tagging and text notes, so file organization alone does not justify the upgrade. These picks follow Fluke's documents; the focus-distance and battery conflicts below matter before ordering.

Best for detailed inspection records: Fluke TiS55+
The TiS55+ is our stronger choice when the record must explain a small feature and what the inspector found. Fluke specifies a narrower thermal view and smaller IFOV than TiS20+; its image-quality guidance explains why narrow fields help smaller objects at a distance and lower IFOV values improve detail. That is the basis for our pick, rather than the screen's pixel count.
The TiS55+/TiS75+ manual resolves the product page's “manual and fixed focus” wording: rotate the focus control normally, or align its index to simulate fixed focus at 1.2 m. This is a manual-focus instrument with a convenient reference setting.
Close-focus conflict: the product page and technical datasheet specify 0.15 m, but the separate product-specification PDF says 0.5 m. Obtain confirmation for the supplied revision before choosing it for close-up work. We do not treat the shorter figure as guaranteed.
For handovers, Fluke documents up to 60 seconds of voice annotation per image, through an external Bluetooth headset using HSP, plus one IR-PhotoNote and typed notes. Photographing an asset identifier alongside the thermal record is the specific reason to consider that photo feature. Budget for a compatible headset if voice notes are essential; it is not in the documented package.

Best for simpler fixed-focus rounds: Fluke TiS20+
Choose TiS20+ when broad equipment patterns and a consistent capture routine matter more than manual focus or extra annotation types. Its wider view is the starting point for that recommendation; Fluke's guidance favors wider fields for inspecting larger areas.
It is not limited to anonymous pictures. The TiS20+ manual documents scanned or manually entered asset IDs, flags and keyboard notes. These can stay with the radiometric image in .is2 format. Do not buy TiS55+ solely to avoid renaming files or to add typed observations.
Check distance carefully. Beyond the minimum in the table, Fluke's newer TiS20+ product-specification PDF prints an operating range of 0.5 m to 1.2 m. The product page supplies a minimum focus distance instead. Ask Fluke to confirm suitability for the route's actual working distances, particularly farther targets.
Choose MAX when the original model's temperature ceiling is insufficient. The shared official table gives it the same detector, fixed focus and frame rate; it does not establish an improvement in small-target detail.

Buying guide: establish target size and distance first
Write down the smallest feature whose temperature matters and the permitted viewing position. Then check focus, field of view and IFOV together. Fluke describes spatial resolution as the smallest object size detectable; identifying a feature is not a promise that its temperature is measured accurately. Request measurement-spot guidance for the intended target and distance before committing to a route.
Do not use a sharp visible overlay as your acceptance test. Fluke's manual warns that incorrect infrared focus can blur the thermal image and make radiometric data inaccurate. For repeat visits, our advice is to record the viewing position, equipment condition and relevant settings with the baseline, then inspect whether the comparison remains meaningful.
Check calibration separately from range. The TiS20+ page and newer product-specification PDF say it is not calibrated below −10°C; its marketing technical datasheet instead says below 0°C. TiS55+'s documents specify no calibration below −10°C. Resolve the applicable specification before quantitative subzero work.
Asset tagging, analysis and capture are different purchases
Both cameras support QR-based asset organization. Their manuals also permit manual asset-ID entry. Use a unique ID for each asset, check the active ID when moving on, and retain the original .is2 files: both manuals restrict asset tags, flags and notes to that format. Ordinary exported JPEGs are not equivalent master records.
The practical TiS55+ advantage is extra context attached during capture. Its voice and identification-photo functions supplement the text notes already available on TiS20+. Consider who receives the report: a photo may help identify the equipment, while a concise text note may be easier to search or quote. Choose the annotation method the receiving team will actually use.
TiS55+ interval capture is not video recording. Fluke specifies automatic still-image capture at a user-selected interval and explicitly lists no video recording. The shared manual's feature table assigns video mode and radiometric streaming to TiS75+. Do not transfer those capabilities to TiS55+ because they appear elsewhere in the manual.
- Yes: Both: asset IDs and notes saved in radiometric IS2 records
- Yes: TiS55+: automatic interval capture of still images
- No: TiS55+: video recording is not supported in its specifications
- Partly: Cloud asset-management entitlements: confirm the service separately

The TiS55+ package excludes the two-bay charger. Both families support in-camera charging. Their technical datasheets list FLK-TI-SBP3 additional smart battery and FLK-TI-SBC3B charger as optional accessories. The SBP3 page identifies part 3440365; the SBC3B page identifies part 4354922. Use the family documents to establish compatibility: those accessory pages' headline lists emphasize older cameras.
Runtime conflict: TiS20+'s page and technical datasheet specify at least 5 hours without Wi-Fi, while its newer product-specification PDF specifies at least 4 hours without Wi-Fi. TiS55+ specifies at least 3.5 hours without Wi-Fi, dependent on settings and use. Both product-specification PDFs give a full-charge time of no more than 2.5 hours. These are manufacturer figures; plan power around the applicable document and actual route rather than promising an uninterrupted shift.
Fluke's current thermal-software page lists SmartView Classic for analysis and reports and Fluke Connect Desktop for cloud-connected image management and reporting. Both camera manuals document USB transfer to a PC and Fluke Connect desktop analysis. The TiS55+ page labels Fluke Connect Assets optional software; a downloadable desktop application does not establish every cloud or work-order entitlement.

How we choose
We compared Fluke's US model listings, manuals, technical datasheets, separate product specifications and current software page, checked November 3, 2026. This is document-based research without physical camera evaluation. We checked model-specific columns rather than assigning TiS75+ functions to TiS55+, and retained conflicting focus, runtime and calibration statements. See our selection method.
Verdict
TiS55+ is our pick for detailed repeat-inspection records, where manual focus and attached voice or photo context justify the purchase. TiS20+ is the simpler fixed-focus choice when its documented target coverage is enough; MAX addresses the higher temperature range. Confirm distance, exact package and the reporting workflow before ordering.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Fluke TiS55+ worth choosing over TiS20+?
Choose TiS55+ when smaller targets, manual focusing, voice notes or an attached identification photo matter to the inspection record. Its detector is 256 × 192 versus 120 × 90, with a narrower field of view. TiS20+ already supports asset tagging and text notes. For broad targets and a simpler route, those shared record functions may be sufficient.
What is the difference between TiS20+ and TiS20+ MAX?
Fluke lists the same 120 × 90 detector, fixed focus and 9 Hz frame rate for both. The stated temperature range ends at 150°C for TiS20+ and 400°C for MAX, starting at −20°C. MAX therefore addresses temperature range rather than adding detector detail. Fluke's documents disagree about the lower calibration boundary, so confirm that separately for subzero measurements.
Can the Fluke TiS55+ record radiometric video?
Fluke's TiS55+ specifications say no video recording. Its shared manual covers TiS75+ too, and the feature table assigns video mode and radiometric streaming to TiS75+. TiS55+ does offer automatic interval capture of still images. Choose it for that documented still-image workflow; a 27 Hz imaging variant does not establish a video recording or radiometric streaming capability.
Does TiS55+ include a spare battery and a charging base?
The US TiS55+ package lists one battery, a power supply, USB cable, a 4 GB microSD card, hard and soft cases, and a hand strap. The two-bay charger is explicitly excluded. Fluke's family datasheet identifies the additional SBP3 battery and SBC3B charger as optional accessories. Inventory the package before ordering extras; the included supply supports in-camera charging.
