On this page · Quick picks: choose the optical question first
For a first multimode loss-testing setup, choose Fluke FTK1000; for singlemode, choose FTK2000. Choose FTK1475 when you need both fiber types plus inspection, fault finding and cleaning tools. Buy SFPOWERMETER alone when you already have the required source and accessories, or only need optical power readings.
Quick picks: choose the optical question first
- Multimode starter — FTK1000: meter, source and SC adapter; add the connector-specific accessories below.
- Singlemode starter — FTK2000: the equivalent starting point with a singlemode source.
- Mixed-fiber service — FTK1475: our package pick when its included troubleshooting tools are needed.
- Existing source or power checks — SFPOWERMETER: avoid duplicating equipment you already own.
Power and loss answer different questions. Power readings in dBm describe the received level; loss in dB describes what the fiber and connectors lose relative to a reference. A source-and-meter setup measures loss; VisiFault checks continuity and helps expose visible faults, while FI-500 inspects connector end faces. See Fluke's manual, VisiFault page and FI-500 page.
If your search for a network cable tester means RJ45 wiremap or link-speed qualification, start with our Ethernet cable tester guide and MicroScanner2 vs LinkIQ comparison. For fiber acceptance work, Fluke's selection matrix does not assign automated pass/fail results or fiber length to SimpliFiber Pro. Agree the required deliverable before buying a verification kit.
- Yes: Optical power: use the meter at the matching calibrated wavelength
- Yes: Insertion loss: add the matching source and establish a reference
- Partly: Visual faults and end-face inspection: require their own tools
- No: Automated pass/fail and fiber length: not listed for SimpliFiber Pro

Resolve Fluke's conflicting descriptions before ordering. The datasheet ordering paragraph assigns FTK1000 a VFL, FT120 viewer, FindFiber and ST/LC adapters; the current product table describes the basic kit above. The datasheet also says 1310/1500 for SFSINGLEMODESOURCE, against 1310/1550 in the dedicated source sheet and current product table. FTK1375 has one FindFiber in the main table but two on the FI-500 page; obtain the exact packing list.
Older labels FTK1300, FTK1350 and FTK1450 remain in descriptive copy but have no separate entries in the current kit ordering list. Match the orderable model and included inspection tool rather than treating a similar suffix as equivalent.
Best multimode starter: FTK1000
FTK1000 includes an 850/1300 nm multimode source, meter, SC meter adapter, magnetic straps and case. Choose it when you already have inspection and cleaning equipment or will order them separately. For fault finding, FTK1200 adds VisiFault, FindFiber and ST/LC meter adapters; FTK1375 adds FI-500 inspection as well. Check the Fluke kit contents.
The catch is the accessory order: an LC link still needs suitable reference cords and an LC meter adapter. A kit name containing “verification” does not establish that those items are supplied.
Best singlemode starter: FTK2000
FTK2000 supplies the 1310/1550 nm laser source, meter, SC adapter and case. Choose it for a singlemode-only workload, then add inspection and cleaning tools as needed. Owners of a compatible setup can order SFSINGLEMODESOURCE separately; SFMULTIMODESOURCE is the separate multimode option. Both have fixed SC outputs. See the source and kit ordering table.
Need 1490/1625 nm loss measurements? Fluke's datasheet lists FTK2100 with both singlemode sources and SFSINGLEMODE2 separately. Neither has an entry in the current product ordering table, so confirm availability before building an order around them.
Best mixed-fiber package: FTK1475
FTK1475 combines 850/1300 and 1310/1550 nm sources, FI-500, VisiFault, two FindFiber remotes, SC/ST/LC meter adapters, cleaning kit, straps and case. Choose it when those tools earn their space in the order; its meter is not a different measurement tier. Check FTK1475 with Fluke.
Inspect the remaining gaps: the core packing list does not name reference cords or the VisiFault LC adapter. Fluke's FI-500 page additionally lists 1.25 mm cleaning swabs for FTK1475; the main kit entry names NFC-KIT-BOX without those swabs. Confirm that line item before duplicating supplies.
Meter-only pick: SFPOWERMETER
SFPOWERMETER comes with an SC adapter and is calibrated at 850, 1300, 1310, 1490, 1550 and 1625 nm. Fluke specifies +10 to −52 dBm at 850 nm and +10 to −60 dBm at the other listed wavelengths, with 0.01 dB display resolution. Check that range against the signal you intend to measure. See Fluke's meter specifications.
Choose it for optical power checks or to complete an existing source setup. Those extra calibrated wavelengths do not add a light source to the box, and display resolution should not be read as measurement accuracy.
Buying guide: adapters, reference cords and cleaning
An adapter is not a reference cord. The meter adapter changes which connector it accepts; the sources retain their fixed SC outputs. For an LC link, budget an LC meter adapter and the appropriate SC/LC source cord plus LC/LC receive cord. Fluke's one-jumper loss method uses a second reference cord for the link measurement.
These are individual 2 m cords, listed in Fluke's accessory table; choose the row matching the installed fiber. They are separate order items, not promised kit contents.

For the basic kits, add NFA-LC-SINGLE for this LC setup; FTK1200, FTK1375 and FTK1475 already list LC meter adapters. SC, ST and FC jobs need their matching cords and adapters instead of copying this LC order.
Example complete order: for a 50 µm multimode LC link using the manual's one-jumper method, start with FTK1000, NFA-LC-SINGLE, one MRC-50-EFC-SCLC-M and one MRC-50-LCLC-M, plus FI-500 and NFC-KIT-CASE if you lack inspection and cleaning tools. For FTK2000 on a singlemode LC link, substitute SRC-9-SCLC-M and SRC-9-LCLC-M. Optional visual fault finding adds VisiFault and NF380. Compare the complete equipment list when requesting a quote, including tools already owned.
Inspect and clean. FI-500 includes UPC inspection tips; APC tips are additional. NFC-KIT-CASE contains wipes, cards, solvent and both 2.5 mm and 1.25 mm port swabs. NFC-KIT-BOX lists 2.5 mm swabs; add NFC-Swabs-1.25mm when required. Separately, VisiFault needs NF380 for LC, even if the power-meter LC adapter is included. See the cleaning contents and VFL adapter.
FindFiber is for identification. Its remotes identify runs and polarity; order FINDFIBER separately if that is the missing capability. Inspection, visual fault location, identification and measured insertion loss answer different questions.
Get a useful loss record, not just a number
Use the source's AUTO mode for matched testing. The source identifies its wavelength to the meter and can alternate between its wavelengths; the meter can save both readings in one record. That automation depends on the source setup, so check the mode before collecting a job's results.
The manual requires clean connections and a reference, with a 5-minute warm-up and extra stabilization after temperature changes. The one-jumper method includes the fiber and both end connections. Keep the source-side cord connected after referencing; reconnecting it requires a new reference. Re-reference and retest a negative loss result.
Inspect and clean
Check the connectors and reference cords before connection.
Stabilize and reference
Follow the manual's warm-up and reference procedure at the required wavelengths.
Preserve the source connection
Move the meter-side connection to insert the link and receive cord.
Save and identify
Record the result and associate its record number with the fiber.
The meter stores 1000 records, with multiple wavelengths per record, and transfers results by USB to LinkWare PC for reporting. Its record numbers become the Cable ID column: keep a job-to-fiber naming plan. On Windows 10/11, Fluke recommends LinkWare PC 12.1 Build 14 or newer to resolve older USB-driver issues affecting SimpliFiber Pro. Use the official downloads and driver note, then verify a sample report before the job.
Never look into optical connectors or use magnification on optical outputs without proper filtering; follow the instrument and inspection-tool safety instructions.
How we choose
Recommendations use Fluke's product tables, source sheets, user manual and support notes, checked November 3, 2026. They are document-based selections; thisMETER has no physical test results for these kits. We prioritize the required fiber type, source wavelengths, connector fit and reporting workflow, and identify conflicting packing lists. Our selection method explains the approach.
Verdict
Choose FTK1000 for multimode, FTK2000 for singlemode, and FTK1475 when its mixed-fiber sources and troubleshooting accessories suit the job. Choose SFPOWERMETER to complete equipment you already own. Before ordering, reconcile the packing list with your reference cords, connector polish, inspection tips, cleaners and required report.
Frequently asked questions
Can I measure fiber loss with the SimpliFiber Pro meter alone?
The meter alone measures optical power; a controlled light source and a reference are needed for the loss workflow in Fluke's manual. FTK1000 supplies an 850/1300 nm multimode source, while FTK2000 supplies a 1310/1550 nm singlemode source. Choose by the fiber and wavelengths required, then add matching reference cords and meter adapters.
Does FTK1475 include a 1490/1625 nm source?
Fluke's current FTK1475 ordering entry lists 850/1300 nm and 1310/1550 nm sources. Its meter is also calibrated at 1490 and 1625 nm, but calibration does not supply an additional transmitter. Fluke's datasheet lists SFSINGLEMODE2 and the FTK2100 package for those extra source wavelengths; confirm availability because neither appears in the current product ordering table.
What do I need for LC fiber connectors?
For the meter, check whether NFA-LC-SINGLE is already included. The sources have fixed SC ports, so LC testing uses hybrid SC-to-LC reference cords rather than a replacement source adapter. Match the cords to the fiber type. Separately, VisiFault requires the optional NF380 adapter for LC; an LC power-meter adapter does not replace that accessory.
Why will my Windows PC not recognize SimpliFiber Pro?
Fluke identifies SimpliFiber Pro among instruments affected by older USB drivers on Windows 10 and 11. Its support note recommends LinkWare PC 12.1 Build 14 or newer for the updated drivers. Install the current official software and verify a sample import before relying on the setup for customer reports; retain a record-to-fiber naming plan.
